Why buy?
The pleasure from good glasses comes in 2 distinct forms: nice glasses elevate your sense of indulgence while also providing the means to bring out your wines' best qualities. There is something special about pulling oversized glasses down from your kitchen cabinet. First of all, they are beautiful objects in and off themselves. Their form and clarity are exquisite and how about the sound good chrystal makes when you toast??!!
But they also have been designed to enhance the bouquet of your wine. Having a spacious goblet for red and white wines alike allows you to swirl without spilling. This swirling aerates the wine and is critical in releasing all its aromas.
Your wine needs a little air after all that time pent up in a bottle! The inverted curve of good glassware captures these aromas and leaves them lingering for you when you stick your shnoz in and inhale deeply. You just can't do this with a small wine glass. What's more, the quality glass possesses a clarity that shows off a wines color and purity.
How much will this cost? You can now find decent glassware in Vietnam that is dishwasher safe and costs as little as $2.00 a stem. Hence, a complete set of 10 glasses (always buy a few extra for inevitable breakage over time) for around $60.00 or set of 12—glasses often come in boxes of 6-- for $75.
Of course, if you want something that you can really take pleasure in that will look great on your dining table, there are various options in glassware from $4-8 a stem and moving up to closer to $10 a stem for gorgeous crystal. Many options exist and WineOi can offer you 10% or more off of retail prices on some of our favorite products.
Wine Glasses at Metro
Amongst a wide range of glasses, WineOi most liked 2 Metro glass manufacturers. At the higher end is Arcoroc, with both large Bordeaux style-glasses and balloon goblets for 438,000 VND per box of 6 stems. These are good value and attractive. The Ocean line is dishwasher safe and a great value in red, white and champagne flutes all for 198,000 per box of 6 stems—hard to beat but, it must be said, a real step down from Schott Zwiesel. Metro also sells the Epivac made by Swissmar. This great little device comes with 1 stopper and a pump to allow you to get days of freshness out of your open but unfinished bottles. Vine used to stock these but is currently out, making Metro the only place I know in Hanoito get this terrific product. At 200,000 (the price of 1 bottle!), no kitchen should be without this.
WineOi does not partner with Metro so you will have to make the trip out there to avail yourself of these fine products.
